I will start by saying I really am a beginner and was very pleased that I got the machine threaded and managed to repair a cloth purse with it. Since I really don't know what I am doing I found the included manual very helpful in getting the machine set up. I also like that it has so many stitch options and it was easy even for a novice like myself to figure out how to change stitches with the included chart in the manual. Overall I am very happy with my purchase and am excited to start sewing some fabulous curtains and pillows. I only gave it 4 stars out of five because the bobbin cover and some other parts are plastic and I think metal would be a more sturdy option. However for what it cost and the fact that I can actually manage to use the machine I am happy.

It's a bit hard to remove the backing sometimes. This tape is hard to find and super expensive in stores. Got a great deal by getting it from Amazon. Labeled everything and I mean EVERYTHING in my kitchen and still lots of tape left. Now I'm all organized and the kitchen looks great!

(More customer reviews)I recently purchased the Elipse 4-hoop package after purchasing the Brother PE700ii. I was hesitant, but found another website in which two people gave favorable reviews. So I took the plunge. I am very happy and satisfied with these hoops. The 5x7 hoop is fully identical to the original Brother hoop that came with the machine; in fact, it's my opinion that the Elipse hoops are a bit sturdier.
The included thread is a great bonus; it's Polystar polyester thread, which is 50 wt., the size specific to my Brother machine.
The included stork scissors are ok. I use Gingher embroidery scissors, and these stork scissors seem kind of cheap. But they're included and some may find them useful.
I don't think you can go wrong as the price can't be beat!

(More customer reviews)I have beern using this hummingbird food for years. The local hummingbirds seem to love it. I have tried others, but, the local humming birds seem to shun them. Recently I had difficulty locating the MILLS Brothers humming food locally. I found it at Amazon.
I found that by using a Rubbermaid "RefillReuse" 20 oz. plastic bottle, mixing the food with water becomes easy. One side of the bottle is marked with a 10 oz. mark and a 20 oz. mark. Between those two marks is blank mark. That would be the 15 oz. mark.
I empty a bag of hummingbird food into the bottle. Fill the bottle with water until it reaches the mark between the 10 oz. and the 20 oz. marks. Replace the cap making sure the spout is closed and shake. Done. They sell the bottle at Amazon.

The instruction manual is very clear and the machine itself is amazing with so many stocking options. The auto bobbin winder and feeder are great functions. If you are new to sewing and do not want to spend a lot of money on a machine that may be to complicated this is the machine to get plenty of bells and whistles but not overwhelming.

(More customer reviews)I bought this case of bobbins with the understanding that it would work in my Brother CS-6000i machine. That was one of the model numbers listed as compatible with these bobbins under this bobbin case product description. However, I found that the bobbins did not work as stated. So now I have a storage case with a bunch of useless bobbins. While the bobbin would wind, it doesn't fit in the drop in case. The top and bottom are a little more rounded than the ones that come with the machine. This results in a loose fit that doesn't maneuver the thread well for tension. As a result, what were supposed to be straight stitches came out as a little curved zig zags. I tried taking it in an out a few times to see if it was user error, but any time I used one of the bobbins that came with the machine I didn't have any problems and any time I used these bobbins it didn't work. I also tried a few different bobbins from the case should there just be a couple of faulty ones. But the problem is with all of them due to the roundedness of the top and bottom. So just be advised that if you're buying this case of bobbins with the intention of using them in your Brother CS-6000i model, all you're getting is a storage case with 30 worthless bobbins...

Brother ES2000 77 Stitch Function Computerized Free Arm Sewing Machine Review

(More customer reviews)This machine is very similar to the popular CS 6000 that's sold both here in Amazon and in Walmart. In fact they both use the same manual. The difference between the 2 are: CS6000 has an start/stop button so you can operate the machine w/o foot pedal, quilting accessories such as walking foot and larger table extension, needle up/down button, faster bobbin winding, 2 speeds, a hard cover and some extra fancy stitches. I don't care about these missing features. I sewed my own cloth cover using left over fabric. To me this little machine has all the functionality that I ever wanted from a sewing machine. All the utility stitches are there - sewing buttons and button holes (1-step), zippers, elastic, overlock, zig zag, satin, blah blah blah - everything you need to sew a dress or a pillow case, plus more. If you quilt a lot buy the CS6000 one. Threading is super easy because the direction is printed right on the machine. The automatic needle threader is very helpful. I use it every time. My only complaint is that the thread tends to slip out of the needle hole unless I leave a very long "tail". This happened w/ CS6000 too when I tried it at a friend's house. With both models you can specify if the needle is left up or down when sewing stops. Both needs no oiling (probably mostly plastic parts?) I haven't sewed very heavy fabric yet. The LED light is very dim but cool. You definitely need a real lamp nearby. You can leave the machine on for a long time because the light uses very little energy. If you do turn it off, all the custom stitch settings will be lost (no memory). So far I am very happy with this machine.

I was a little disppointed because the instructions included with this item are vary vague and difficult to read. The pictures are small and not very detailed. However, I think the instructions are pre-packaged in the item so not necessarily a seller problem. I would just recommend searching for turtorial videos... I found quite a few on YouTube. This was a great help.
Be sure to practice before actually using this on a quilt. It's easy to learn!

Brother XR9000 Sewing Machine Review

(More customer reviews)The XR9000 is very lightweight, I don't know if that makes it less robust or not- it seems pretty sturdy but I would not use it for leather. The sewing mechanism is wonderful- very quiet and soft, like cutting through butter. Foot pedal is responsive and the speed limit slider works great. There's also a button control but for whatever weird reason you can not use the start/stop button while the pedal is plugged in; I don't foresee that button getting a lot of use.
There's a reverse/reinforce button which unfortunately is a temporary switch only- not a toggle. It can be used in conjunction with the foot pedal or you just hold the button down and it will go in reverse at a slow speed.
Several extra presser feet are included, e.g. buttonhole, buttonstitch, zipper, blind hem. The one thing I am missing is a quilting guide. There's a slot for it in the foot but it has to be purchased separately. While the accessories are fine, the accessory storage is not. There's a front panel section that you have to pull out and then inside there's a plastic pouch with all the goodies. You have to keep the stuff in the pouch or they'll fall out of the machine. For $0.20 more Brother could have added a proper compartment with a hinge- instead they took a very cheap and impractical storage approach.
Lighting is provided by a bright but focussed white LED. I am somewhat spoiled by having a high wattage light bulb in the previous machine which lit up the entire working area. The XR9000 LED lights up the presser foot really well but that's about it. The "automatic needle threading" is not automatic, but still extremely useful (I keep missing the eye when trying to do it manually).
Even though I wound 3 bobbins I still can't tell whether the machine has an automatic stopping mechanism or just slows down a lot once the bobbin is full. Either way you can run the winding at full speed for a minute and it's quite noticeable once it's complete. The bobbins are full-size and top-loading. There's a somewhat tricky part about catching a hook when loading the bobbin which is not well explained in the manual. The first time I missed that which resulted in unbalanced stitches; reloading the bobbin more carefully took care of it. Another nice feature is that you don't have to pull up the lower thread before you can start to sew.
The stitch patterns are plentiful and half of them look quite nice. The other half has weird default settings where the default stitch length is too long, you can adjust that in the display but it still strikes me as odd. The monogramming feature works- it's fixed size, fixed font and does not look all that great. The XR9000 does not have any adjustable settings for presser foot height or pressure. However, the included default presser foot has some kind of spring adjustment built in which is supposed to help with thick fabric layers. I have not had a chance to try it out yet. The manual and instructional DVD are great and cover all the essentials.
EDIT- 2 months later: I have been having problems with thin fabric veering off to the side which made it impossible to do blind hems or other straight stitches with tight tolerances. For 2 months I thought this was me using it wrong until I brought it to a local store. As it turns out the machine shipped with some defects- the shank was slightly angled and the feed dog timing was off. Repair was $60 and came with a warning by the mechanic that the Brother machines are not particulaly reliable due to lack of solid metal construction. Machine loses 1 star for this and the fact that Brother does not have many authorized service centers.

(More customer reviews)I don't normally write reviews, but I wanted to take a minute to say I am really happy with my new Brother machine as well as the Grand Slam Package. The seller Mr. Vac & Mrs. Sew did deliver in two days and the packaging was very sturdy. I was very surprised to see two big boxes delivered. Once I had determined which was machine and which was goodies, I was more excited to open the additional box that came with my new Brother. I had expected the thread to be sample sized about 2 inches long and ½ inch in diameter. I was very surprised to see full size spools in 61 colors. Also were 144 bobbins all pre-wound and ready for me to start. Included was a full size of Tear away stabilizer, again I was expecting sample sizes.
The Brother has been very user friendly; I have to admit I was a little scared to use it. It is my first embroidery machine. I read through the instructions briefly and I was off. (mostly to find out how to secure the material and stabilizer in the hoop).
I feel like the guy from Ronco - you just set it and forget it. The only time you have to pay attention is when it is time to change the tread.
I also like the options set up. I can have the machine programmed to back up / lock the thread at the end of a stitch and cut the thread for me when I finish. I am using this machine for quilting and I like not having to get out my scissors when I am piecing strips or squares. I have used it for quilting finish on one project so far and it walked great on the two layers of material and low loft batting. I it also embroideries through those layers just as easy. My first project was a baby blanket and I was able to put the babies name on after I completed the project. Nice big electric blue letters for a little boy. (thread was compliments of the "Grand Slam Package").

Brother PED-Basic Software for Downloading Embroidery Designs Review

(More customer reviews)I've been doing machine embroidery for about 5 years, and just purchased my first Brother machine (which I absolutely adore). Before that, I have 2 other machines, and I used card readers/writers by Amazing Box. My first one broke. The second one still works. But, these Amazing Box products are amazingly flimsy, light and cheap. The software barely works with any operating system, and trying to used the things was always on a hope and a prayer.
Then, because I want everything to be just perfect with my new and expensive Brother machine, I bought the PED Basic box with blank card media. I plugged it into my USB, loaded the software, and transferred a design from my computer to the card without having to even look at any instructions. The card then went into my machine, the machine picked out the design, and everything stitched flawlessly.
The PED Basic card reader/writer is small and compact, but has a good amount of weight to it. It feels sturdy and of high quality. It is fast and simple to use. So, even if I didn't have 2 inferior products to compare this to, I'd still have to give this box 5 stars.
And, you definitely can't beat the price at Amazon! Now, I just have to find an additional blank card, since I like to have 2 or 3 of them "just in case".

Brother LB6800PRW Computerized Embroidery and Sewing Machine Review

(More customer reviews)I thought I had done my research on this machine but man was I wrong! After I had purchased this machine, I read that there is NO DIFFERENCE between this one and the SE 400 which you can buy for a full one hundred dollars less! The SE 400 is 369.00 right now on Amazon.com. Oh yes, there is a difference, you have the name project runway on your sewing machine and you get the little bag to cart your sewing machine around in. For that, you pay an extra 100 bucks! I never had any intention of using the bag, I would be embarrassed to cart around my sewing machine in a P.R. bag, I bought this one because I was told it was recommended by consumer reports so I looked no further. Don't get me wrong, this machine does what it says and is fun but the hoop is small and you have to buy larger hoops to use the larger designs. I could have spent that extra 100 on larger hoops or the embroidery thread you have to buy. Know also that the thread for an embroidery machine is very expensive. As are the hoops. Plan on spending at the very least another 60.00 on additional hoops and the thread for the machine is 5.25 for a full size spool. The smaller ones are cheaper but you get a lot less thread and the machine uses a lot of thread. Even with only the basic 8 colors, you have 42.00 bucks in thread and don't kid yourself into thinking you can get by with only 8 colors. I would buy this machine again but not the Project Runway machine, it would be the SE 400. I was considering not posting this review because its embarrassing to admit you were too stupid to look a bit further but maybe someone out there will benefit from the expensive lesson I have learned.
